Hurghada court jails Ukrainian woman for fraud

The Hurghada Misdemeanor Court has jailed on Tuesday a Ukrainian national named Highlana with a bail of LE 1,000 over charges of fraud after collecting banknotes from foreigners and claiming that she would organize an art performance at Hurghada Theater, which was untrue.

The head of the Hurghada Prosecution decided to imprison Highlana for four days pending investigations and referred the case to the court for urgent trial.

Police officers at the Hurghada police station moved to the theater and found a number of foreign tourists waiting for the supposed performance, accusing Highlana of cheating them.

Egypt is the second destination for the Ukrainian tourists. The number of Ukrainian tourists visiting Egypt, particularly Hurghada, reached 773,000 from January to August 2018, with the number expected to have reached one million by the end of that year.
