Hurghada to host CAF’s award ceremony next January

Egypt’s Hurghada has been selected to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s award ceremony next January, according to an announcement by the CAF on Thursday.

This annual ceremony celebrates prominent footballers and their remarkable football contributions in Africa.

The nominees are expected to be announced by the CAF within the upcoming week.

The first ceremony kicked off in 1992 granting the best African Footballer of the Year award at first, and then forming different categories for other awards over the past years, al-Ahram reported.

These expanded categories include female footballers.

Egypt’s iconic footballer Mohamed Salah won the African Player of the Year award for the second year consecutively in 2018. He is the fourth African player to snatch this title back-to-back, following El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, and Yaya Touré.

Hurghada is one of the Red Sea’s most dazzling cities. Recently, Real Madrid’s iconic defender Sergio Ramos visited Hurghada several weeks ago along with his family to celebrate his new marriage.

At the end of his four-day trip to Hurghada resort, Ramos expressed deep love and gratitude towards Egypt where he was tenderly welcomed and received generous hospitality.

Writing on a family photo, Ramos said: “One of the best trips ever, now I know why everyone speaks so highly of Egypt and its people. Egypt you will always have a piece of my heart.”
