Inflation rate rises by 0.3% in February: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported an increase in inflation of 0.3 percent in the month of February compared to January, reaching 267 points compared to 266.3 points.

The annual inflation rate recorded 14.3 percent in February, compared to 31.7 percent in February 2017. The decrease was boosted by the flotation of the Egyptian pound by the end of 2016.

The price of food and drink increased in February by 0.8 percent compared to January. It rose by 12.9 percent on an annual basis, compared to February 2017.

In urban areas, the inflation rate in February fell by 0.3 percent compared to January to record 258 points compared to 258.6 points. On an annualized basis, the inflation rate recorded 14.4 percent in urban areas in February, compared to February 2017.

In rural areas, inflation rate rose by about 3 percent in February compared to January to record 277.1 points compared to 277.2 points. On an annualized basis, the inflation rate recorded in rural areas 14.1 percent in February, compared to February 2017.
