Inflation rises 1.8% in January



The rate of monthly inflation rose by 1.8 percent in January compared to December, and the annual rate of inflation rose by 6.6 percent compared to January 2012, the Central Agency for Public Mobilizations and Statistics said. 

In a statement issued on Sunday, CAPMAS said the rate of monthly inflation climbed due to the increase in the prices of cigarettes by 7.6 percent, the maintenance of housing by 6.6 percent, electricity by 5.9 percent, vegetables by 5.2 percent, furnishing by 4.9 percent, cars by 4.6 percent, appliances by 3.2 percent and dairy products and eggs by 3 percent.

The CAPMAS also said that prices of food increased in January by 2.7 percent compared to the month before, and by 8.2 percent compared to the same month in 2012.
