Investigations opened in towboat sinking at Alexandria port

Alexandria prosecutors formed a committee on Thursday to investigate the sinking of a towboat at al-Dekhaila port of Alexandria.

The director of Alexandria port investigations received a communication about the sinking of locomotive Dekhaila-6 once it left Dekhaila port. Emergency responders headed to the scene of the incident and were able to rescue the five-member crew.

Chairman of Alexandria Port Authority Adel Yassin Hammad ordered an extensive investigation to determine the causes of the locomotive's sinking.

The crew and port management officials were referred to interrogation.

Investigators say the head of the locomotive began moving without any instructions or signal to him to move.

Initial inspections showed a hole in the towboat's body that led to its sinking.
