Jordan deports 19 Egyptian illegal immigrants

Jordan has deported 19 Egyptians for entering the country illegally, the Foreign Ministry told MENA on Wednesday.

The deportees reportedly traveled to Jordan and were planning to cross into Syria, then Turkey and finally Europe.

Egyptians should be aware that the situation at the Jordanian-Syrian border is risky, and that Jordanian authorities deal strictly with illegal immigrants, said ministry spokesperson Amr Roshdi.

He said the Egyptian Embassy in Amman always intervenes to make sure Egyptians arrested in Jordan are deported.

Roshdi warned that in the future, Egyptians caught traveling illegally could be tried by military tribunals when they return home.
