Judge to investigate reports accusing ex-military leaders of killing protesters

A judge has been assigned to head the investigation into various reports filed against three former military officials accusing them of killing demonstrators during the post-revolution transition period.

Judge Tharwat Hammad, head of the Cairo Court of Appeals, was assigned to oversee the investigation. The reports had been filed against former Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi, former Armed Forces Chief of Staff Sami Anan and former military police chief Hamdy Badeen.

Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud had asked Justice Minister Ahmed Mekky to assign a judge from the Court of Appeals to immediately investigate the reports.
