Khalifa Haftar expected to be appointed Libyan army chief

The Libyan House of Representatives held in the city of Tobruk east of the country on Tuesday passed a law on the chief commander of the army, amid expectations that General Khalifa Haftar would be appointed for the job, according to MP Ibrahim Fathi Emeish.

Emeish said the law authorizes the parliament speaker, Aqilah Saleh Qweider, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to appoint a military figure to the new post.

“He who will be appointed will be sworn in before parliament,” he said.
