Kuwait releases man who brutally assaulted Egyptian worker

Kuwaiti prosecution released a man accused of brutally assaulting an Egyptian worker at a central marketplace in the al-Shuwaikh area in Kuwait.

Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa reported on Wednesday that the suspect has been released on a bail of KWD2,000 (approximately $6,668).

The case dates back to December, when Social media users circulated a video captured on CCTV showing a Kuwaiti man brutally assaulting an Egyptian worker at a central marketplace in the al-Shuwaikh area in Kuwait.

The victim, Waheed Mahmoud al-Rifaei Hassan, 43, said that the incident began after he told the Kuwaiti man that workers at the site were on a break, to which he said the Kuwaiti man responded by assaulting him.

The lawyer of the suspect Faisal al-Otaiby said that he demanded the release of his client, saying he was acting in self-defense after the Egyptian worker slapped him on the head.

Hassan sustained several injuries and bruises on his body, as well as broken nose, due to severe beating.
