Lawsuit demands withdrawal of Mubarak medals, decorations

A lawyer filed a lawsuit before the administrative court of the State Council demanding the withdrawal of medals and decorations from former President Hosni Mubarak, the confiscation of property owned by him and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, and to oblige him to refund the monthly salaries he received for the medals and decorations.

The ruling issued by the Court of Cassation, sentencing Mubarak and his two sons Alaa and Gamal to three years rigorous imprisonment and obliging them to refund to the state LE147 million over charges of illegal seizure of public money, is final, said lawyer Samir Sabry.

The ruling consequently deprives Mubarak and his two sons of political and military entitlements, said Sabry.

The ruling deprives three defendants of the right to nominate themselves in elections, vote or to take over a government office. It deprives Mubarak of the pension he receives as a former president or as a former commander of the Egyptian Air Force, of having a military funeral after death and of the medals and decorations he received, according to Sabry.

The Court of Cassation rejected on Saturday an appeal filed by Mubarak and his two sons against the verdict of the Criminal Court issued in May 2015.
