Locally produced Sovaldi on the market as of Saturday

The chairman of the company producing Sovaldi in Egypt, Al-Sayed Hindawi, said on Thursday that the Health Ministry approved a new drug called Sovolanork, for treating hepatitis C patients.

The drug will be sold for LE2,670 as of Saturday at pharmacies and specialized medical centers in all governorates. The imported drug costs LE14,000.

This came during Hindawi’s visit to the Benha Liver Center to launch the “Qalyubiyah Free of Hepatitis C” campaign.

Hindawi said his company agreed with the Health Minister to allocate an annual 10 percent of the production for the treatment of patients who cannot afford the drug.

He also said that 30,000 packs would be distributed in the market in the first week.

Hepatitis C patients are estimated at 15 million in Egypt.
