Main suspect accused of killing journalist dies during confrontation with security

The main defendant accused of killing journalist Mayyada Ashraf was killed on Monday after he shot at security troops while arresting him.

Security troops headed to the house of Ahmed Abdel Hamid Abul Leil, the suspect, at an apartment in Ain Shams a 4am. He started shooting security troops, who returned fire causing his death.

One of the policemen was shot in his face during the confrontation.

Judicial sources said the suspect was a prominent Muslim Brotherhood member. He was ordered to be arrested more than once over murdering Ashraf.

Ashraf was killed during covering Brotherhood protests and clashes with security services in Ain Shams district in March. Interior Ministry denied by then involvement in killing her and blamed the Brotherhood group.
