Marsa Alam International Airport receives first flight from Vienna

The UK’s EasyJet Airline Company announced the opening on Saturday of a new flight route from Vienna to Marsa Alam International Airport as an Austrian Airlines airplane arrived at the airport with 170 passengers onboard, said Director of the Public Relations and Media Department in EMAK Constructions Company Emad Emam.

Several worldwide airlines companies, especially those in Germany, England, Italy, Austria and Scandinavian countries, have started to send charter and direct flights to Marsa Alam, added Emam.

Egyptian airports implement proper safety and security standards including the Civil Aviation Authority’s international standards, he reported.

Emam also clarified that the tourism movement to Red Sea resorts and Marsa Alam increased in 2019 after the Ministry of Tourism and private tourist operators offered various tourist promotion programs abroad.

EasyJet launched in May two flights landing in Marsa Alam, one from Naples and the other from Milan, to operate on a weekly basis.

According to statistical data from Marsa Alam Airport, the number of tourists visiting the city in April increased by 33 percent compared to the same period last year.

German tourists ranked first at 32.4 percent and Italians ranked second at 28 percent of incoming tourism to Marsa Alam.

German tourists in April increased by 46 percent from the same month last year. Italian tourism during April increased by about 85 percent from the same month of 2018.
