Minister arrives in Khartoum to discuss arrest of Egyptian students

Egypt’s immigration and expatriates affairs minister arrived in Sudan’s capital on Tuesday for talks concerning the arrest of several Egyptian students accused of cheating in secondary school examinations.

Nabila Makram is scheduled to hold talks with Sudanese officials, seeking the immediate release of 26 students and six parents, Egyptian ambassador to Khartoum, Ossama Shaltout, told state-run agency MENA.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Monday the students were arrested in connection with the sale of examination papers, with students of several nationalities allegedly involved.

The ministry added that it was not yet clear what criminal charges the students might be facing, if any.

Sudanese media had said that dozens of foreign students were arrested for leaking examination questions to Jordanian students.
