Minister: New power station will improve electricity services

Electricity Minister Mahmoud Balbaa announced that a new 500-megawatt power station in West Damietta would improve the country's electricity problems.

Bablaa told the website EgyNews operations at the new facility will help relieve strains on the national grid and consequently curb rolling blackouts used to protect the network.

The minister said the improvement will begin in coming days and cut down on rolling blackouts. He urged citizens and concerned bodies to work on rationing their power consumption.

Egyptian provinces have been witnessing daily power outages in past weeks. The cuts have stirred popular protests in a number of areas.
