Ministry of Agriculture workers protest against corruption

Workers at the Ministry of Agriculture’s research center staged protests on Sunday against alleged corruption within the center.

They also protested against Minister of Agriculture Ayman Abu Hadid, accusing him of adopting the same corrupt policies as his predecessor Youssef Wali, who imported carcinogenic pesticides.

“We want to purge the ministry of its corrupt leaders,” said Ahmed Abdel Kawy, a researcher at the center. “They spent LE132 billion that was allocated for irrigation on their personal travels.”

Abdel Kawy also said the center fell from the position of number two research center in the world to number 148 due to corrupt policies adopted over the past 30 years.

Ahmed Abdel Fattah, a researcher at the center, said that corruption in the ministry is more prevalent today than before the revolution. “There is no supervision whatsoever,” he said.
