Missing border patrol unit found in Sudan, prepares to return to Egypt

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Amr Roshdy said on Monday that the Egyptian consulate in Port Sudan has negotiated the return of three Egyptian soldiers who had been reported missing after they allegedly crossed the border into Sudan by mistake in March.

The three soldiers are currently at the consulate in Port Sudan and are preparing to return home.

On 21 March, state media reported that the military had lost contact with a border patrol unit at the country's southern frontier and a search was underway in coordination with neighboring states. An army source told Reuters at the time that the unit was small in number.

The Armed Forces Morale Affairs Department issued a statement on 28 March saying the search for the unit was ongoing, but aside from these two statements, no further information was given about the size of the unit, the identity of the missing soldiers or any information about their potential whereabouts.
