Mubarak’s daughter-in-law gives millions to treasury, hopes to reverse ruling

The hearing for an appeal filed by former President Hosni Mubarak's daughter-in-law, Heidi Rasekh, has been adjourned to 25 February.

Rasekh, the wife of Mubarak's oldest son Alaa, asked the Cairo Criminal Court to review the Illicit Gain Authority's decision to freeze her funds, properties and assets.

The court moved to adjourn the hearing to give Rasekh time to provide documents proving that she legally purchased these properties.

Rasekh's defense filed documents stating that she gave LE10 million to the public treasury.

Shawki al-Sayed, representative for the Nova Park Company for Real Estate Investment, called on the court to approve Rasekh's request to release her assets following this donation to the treasury.

Rasekh has properties in Marsa Matrouh, Sharm el-Sheikh, Heliopolis, Moqattam, Golf City and two apartments in the Four Season Plaza Garden City Hotel. The Illicit Gains Authority froze her properties and assets after investigations showed that she had acquired them illegally, using her husband's influence.
