Mubarak sons pay 1.4 mn in gifts case

Alaa and Gamal, the sons of ousted president Hosni Mubarak paid back LE 1,400 million, the value of the gifts their family had received from Dar al-Tahrir publishers, said private channel's ONtv's news agency.

Mubarak’s family has paid LE 31 million so far, as the value of gifts received from national press institutions, al-Ahram, al-Akhbar, al-Gomhuriyya, for the period from 2007 to 2011.

Alaa and Gamal Mubarak expressed their intention to payback any other funds based on investigations.

The Criminal Court had acquitted Alaa and Gamal last year of corruption charges in a deal exporting Egyptian natural gas to Israel at less than market prices, but the Court of Cassation accepted the prosecutor's challenge against the verdict setting 13 April for a re-trial.

Alaa and Gamal are also on trial alongside other businessmen on charges of profiteering in illegal dealings in the stock market.
