New tramway project in Cairo to begin with World Bank funding

The fast tramway project will be implemented in Cairo with funding from the World Bank and under the supervision of the transportation and housing ministries.
 
The new tramway is scheduled to run from the Girls College area all the way to New Cairo through Nasr City. It is planned to have a capacity of 30,000 passengers.
 
During a meeting with the World Bank on Wednesday, Cairo Governor Galal al-Said said that many steps were taken in the planning, design and construction of the project based on a previous agreement with the World Bank.
 
The project is expected to start being implemented within the next 6 months.
 
Other projects funded by the World Bank include the addition of 500 buses to the Public Transport Authority fleet serving Cairo and the development of a garage body authority, as well as its maintenance systems. 
 
The World Bank has been a funder specific projects developing traffic management systems in Greater Cairo.
