Permanent UN representative: Egypt committed to international agreements

Moatez Ahmadine Khalil, Egypt’s permanent representative to the United Nations delivered a statement before the UN Security Council on Monday regarding protecting civilians during armed conflicts, and reasserted Egypt’s international commitments.

Khalil expressed his joy to speak before the Security Council after announcing results of the first real presidential elections, confirming what President-elect Mohamed Morsy mentioned in his speech to the nation on Sunday about respecting international commitments and treaties as well as respecting human rights.

The statement called on the international community and Security Council to take serious action to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Syria and occupied Palestine. He also called for lifting the Israeli blockade that has been imposed on Palestinians in Gaza for years.
