PM Beblawy picks more ministers for new Cabinet

Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy met on Monday with Ashraf al-Arabi, a candidate for the Planning Ministry post in Egypt's interim cabinet, Reuters reported.

Arabi was planning minister under former Prime Minister Hesham Qandil's Cabinet before being removed in a ministerial reshuffle in May. Amr Darrag, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, replaced him.

Arabi said that economic ministers will work to put together an economic roadmap to improve living conditions for Egyptians in the transitional period.

Ayman Farid Abu Hadeed, nominee for the post of agriculture minister, said following a meeting with Beblawy that his priorities include giving greater attention to farmers, maximising use of water resources and enhancing their use, and raising the productivity of export produce.

Abu Hadeed served as agriculture minister in the cabinets of former Prime Ministers Ahmed Shafiq and Essam Sharaf in 2011.

Major General Adel Labib meanwhile said he has accepted his nomination to the Local Administration Ministry, emphasising that his urgent priorities will include paving roads and properly lighting streets in Egypt.

Mohamed Abu Shady, the candidate for the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, said after his meeting with Beblawy that he will focus on the provision of bread and strategic commodities adding that he will work to protect consumers, denying claims that Egypt is suffering from shortages of strategic products.

Beblawy has kept on Ahmed Imam as minister of electricity and energy.
