The police forces entered Al-Azhar University campus on Sunday, first day of the new academic year, to break up pro-Muslim Brotherhood protests by students.
Two armored vehicles entered on campus through the main gate after firing warning shots in the air. Four students were arrested.
Clashes occurred between students and the administrative security personnel as the security prevented students at Al-Azhar Faculty of Medicine from leaving campus to block al-Mokhayam al-Dae'm Street. Students used fireworks against the security.
In related news, the administration of the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, announced initiating an investigation in offensive slogans that were written by pro-Muslim Brotherhood students on the faculty's walls as well as a protest that was organized on campus.
The college administration has decided to dump the tapes and videos of the cameras which recorded the incident.
Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood students organized a rapid march on Cairo University campus on Sunday as part of protests dubbed by the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy "Students are the revolution's knights."
The students chanted anti-police slogans and wrote others on the walls against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the armed forces, and the Interior Ministry.
The security forces affiliated with Giza Security Directorate entered on campus through the Faculty of Dar al-Uloom gate. Armored vehicles were deployed in different parts on campus to tighten the grip over protests by Muslim Brotherhood students under the slogan "Bring back students." Falcon Company security personnel withdrew from the university's gates.
