Police kill 14 terrorists in Sinai: Ministry of Interior

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior announced that police have killed 14 terrorists after a gunfight in a remote area at al-Arish city on Sunday.

Homeland Security Sector observed a terrorist hotbed whose members planned to carry out terrorist attacks against state establishments, police officers and military personnel in al-Arish.

Police killed eight terrorists at the beginning of the assault and pursued six others attempting to flee, successfully killing all of them. Several firearms, ammunition and explosive devices were then seized.

The local affiliate of the Islamic State group branch has waged attacks against security forces and in the past year intensified their against Coptic Christians and other civilian targets.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered security forces to use heavy force to stamp out the Sinai insurgency following the devastating Rawda mosque attack in November 2017, which took the lives of over 300 worshipers.
