Policeman attacked, injured as troops demolish illegal buildings in Maadi

Police captain Hani Haddad, from Dar al-Salam police station, was injured on Sunday after he was attacked by a resident during the demolition of illegal buildings in the Maadi neighborhood, just behind the Supreme Constitutional Court.

Troops from Dar al-Salam police station, in charge of securing forces that were carrying out the demolition orders, were there when the suspect attacked Haddad.

The officer was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the assailant was found to have a criminal record and was arrested.

Egyptian authorities have intensified campaigns against illegal buildings and encroachments on agricultural lands in recent weeks.

Bombs are being used to demolish the illegal buildings in Maadi, which led to the death of a 12-year-old boy last week after debris fell on him.
