Pope: Church still studying personal status bill

The Coptic Orthodox Church is still considering the personal status draft law and will announce its stance after it concludes studying the bill, Pope Tawadros said on Thursday.

He added the Church had nothing to do with the media reports about the draft law.

"Copts 38 Movement" has called for allowing them to participate in drafting the law, as they are one of the oldest movements that advocate a new personal status bill.

Peter al-Naggar, a legal advisor to the movement, said he had submitted a request to the President of the Republic and the ministers of justice and transitional justice, to include movement representatives in the committee drafting the law.
