Power cuts continue in Cairo

Electricity cuts continued in a number of Cairo districts and other provinces, sparking outrage among citizens. In Suez, citizens are subject to disconnections up to three times a day.

The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hassan Younis, called for replacing illegal and unmonitored electricity connections in order to preserve the safety of the network and reduce the power cuts.

Informed ministry sources said that Younis issued directives to the electricity police squad to lead campaigns to detect the haphazard connections and take all legal measures necessary against the violators. The minister warned that such illegal connections may result in major power outages during Ramadan, especially during peak hours, 8 PM to 10 PM.

Younis said that popular Ramadan lamps consume huge amounts of electricity.

On the other hand, an electricity company in Gharbiya has decided to cut the power to six business with outstanding energy bills.
