Prices of gas exports to be revised soon, says minister

Petroleum Minister Abdullah Ghorab said on Tuesday that negotiations on raising the prices of Egyptian gas exports in line with international standards are advancing positively, and that he expects those countries that import Egyptian gas to agree to new prices soon.

Ghorab made the statement at a meeting with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and British Gas Managing Director Frank Chapman.

Chapman said his company is spending US$2.5 billion on expanding its operations in the Nile Delta.

In related news, during the trial of former Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmy and five former ministry officials on Tuesday, the defense team asked the court to issue a gag order on news related to gas exports to Israel, as this sensitive case affects the position of his clients and the national security of the country.
