Prosecutors release activist suspected in December cabinet clashes

Prosecutors handling the violence that erupted last December outside the cabinet building in Cairo released on Monday activist Ahmed Douma, whom they had accused of involvement in the clashes between protesters and security forces.

Douma had been remanded into custody for 30 days pending investigations.

The court also accepted an appeal against the accusation of Douma's involvement in torching the Institut d'Egypte, the country's national archives building.

Outside the court, nearly 25 activists protested in solidarity with Douma, chanting slogans against the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and calling for his release and the end of the detention of political activists.
