Protesters block road after kidnapping of three girls

Hundreds of Agouzain Village residents and residents of neighboring farms in Kafr al-Sheikh blocked the Desouk-Sheikh Road on Thursday morning to protest the kidnapping of three girls from Ezbat al-Shoun Wednesday.

The protesters barricaded the road and carried clubs and sticks saying they would not open the road until the three high school girls were returned. The girls were kidnapped after attending a class in Desouk City.

A number of village residents told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the three students had good reputations, and that their relatives attempted to call them on their mobile phones when they did not come home but their phones were turned off. The relatives then headed to the police station where they filed a police report.

Over the past year, reports of girls being kidnapped for ransom has increased, especially in the wake of the security vacuum in the country since the overthrow of President Mubarak on 11 February 2011.
