Protests over Egyptian fishermen’s detention in Sudan

Families of the Egyptian fishermen who have been detained in Sudan for the past 69 days staged a demonstration outside the Journalists' Syndicate on Tuesday to demand the Egyptian authorities intervene and release their relatives.

Mohamed Rashad Alloush, owner of one of the three detained boats, said the fishermen did not enter the Sudanese territorial waters. “The Sudanese authorities themselves said they were detained to swap them with the Sudanese detained in Egypt for illegally digging for gold,” he said.
