Qatar to host Egyptian national football team friendly matches

Qatar’s football union has formally agreed to Egypt’s request for Qatar to host the Egyptian national team's friendly football matches in Doha, the assistant coach of the Egyptian national team, Diaa al-Sayed, told Al-Masry Al-Youm Tuesday.

Sayed said that the teams playing with Egypt and the dates of the matches have not yet been determined, as they are expected to be changed for the third time.

Sayed said the sponsor is attempting to convince the chosen teams to agree to the changed dates of the matches, which were set primarily for 23, 25 and 29 of February.

On Sunday, the Egyptian Interior Ministry approved holding friendly matches in Egypt with the teams of Kenya, Uganda and Botswana.

A statement for EFA said that the ministry justified its refusal by citing the current situation in Egypt after clashes at Port Said Stadium that killed over 70 people and wounded hundreds of others.

Egypt's African Nations Cup qualifier in the Central African Republic has been postponed until June following the violence in Port Said.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday confirmed that the match, originally due to be played on 29 February, had been rescheduled. It is one of the qualifiers for the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.
