Reckless driver in Alexandria Stanley Bridge accident remanded

Raml misdemeanor court in Alexandria ordered the detention of a student for 15 days pending investigation accused of causing the death of a passerby on Stanley Bridge in Alexandria, due to reckless driving.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of involuntary manslaughter, injuring the victim, intentionally destroying public property, and reckless driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

A drug analysis report showed that the perpetrator of the incident was under the effect of alcohol while driving.

The Stanley Bridge, one of the most famous landmarks in Alexandria, witnessed a terrible accident on Tuesday when a car driven by a student at the Monufiya University’s Faculty of Commerce hit three students standing on the bridge, injuring one of them and causing two of them to fall into the sea.

The first body was recovered on Monday from the sea, while authorities are still looking for the second named Mohamed Hassan Shawky, 21, a student at the Faculty of Commerce, Tanta University.

Mostafa Hany Zaky, the eastern Alexandria top prosecutor, said that a sample will be taken from the recovered body for a DNA analysis to ascertain its identity.
