Revolution youth to demand freeze on NDP activities

A body of young people who took demonstrated during the 25 January Revolution will demand a freeze on the activities of the former ruling party, the National Democratic Party (NDP).

The Revolution Youth Union on Tuesday will ask the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to freeze the activities of the NDP, said Abdallah Helmy, a member of the group.

The Supreme Council and youth union members are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday to discuss their views. Helmy said the meeting will be held at the request of the military council.

"We will submit a number of suggestions and demands, including a one-year freeze on NDP activities to deprive its remnants of the chance of to run in the next elections.

Helmy highlighted the importance of setting standards and conditions for the formation of the panel, which will create the country's new constitution, and asking to determine the method for holding parliamentary polls.

The youth group will also ask for a set maximum wages because several government officials and leaders receive huge salaries, Helmy said.
