Salafi Dawa says Easter celebrations by Muslims prohibited

The Salafi Dawah attacked Easter celebrations and distributed a pamphlet on Saturday to its members, urging them to stay away from celebrating the holiday and not to go to the parks or eat eggs or any other Easter-related activities.

The pamphlet included a fatwa prohibiting celebrating Easter.

"Celebrating Sham el-Nessim (Egypt's Pharaonic holiday that coincides with Easter) is not permissible because Islam has only two feasts," read the pamphlet.

Going out to the parks and eating fesikh and colored eggs were Pharaonic habits, it added, pointing out that Prophet Mohamed did not celebrate Sham el-Nessim.

Salafi scholar Abu Eshaq al-Huwainy issued a fatwa prohibiting the sale of food known to be used for celebrating the holiday, including eggs and fesikh.

Yasser Borhamy, vice president of the Salafi Dawah had previously issued a fatwa as well on prohibiting eating fesikh on that day and celebrating the day as it is considered an acknowledgment of the Christians' feast according to Borhamy.

"The celebration is a reprehensible heresy that is not part of our religion, as Islam has no Easter feast," said Salafi preacher Mostafa al-Adawy.
