Seven militants killed, 36 arrested in North Sinai army crackdown

Seven militants were killed in an army crackdown on a farm west of the Al-Madfouna Al-Shamaliya village in North Sinai, and three militants classified as “most dangerous” and 33 other suspects were arrested.

Sources said the army recovered 1,250 kg of gunpowder, 1,000 liters of sulfuric acid, four bottles of a toxic substance and large quantities of ammunition and explosives.

Nineteen cars and 21 motorcycles without license plates were destroyed in the crackdown, and five cars were stopped while trying to escape.

North Sinai has been the center of many attacks against security forces and the army has vowed to wipe out terrorism in the area. Many residents, however, have criticized the armed forces for being too careless as they claim dozens of men are arrested just to find one militant and whole villages are burned when they suspect someone is sheltering a terrorist.
