Sisi appoints new members and heads of 3 media organizations

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree appointing the new members and heads of three media organizations, as stipulated by the Constitution.

The Supreme Council for the Regulation of Media will be headed by Makram Mohamed Ahmed, former chairman of the Press Syndicate, and the members will include Judge Mohamed Loutfi, deputy president of the State Council; Mona al-Jarf, Mostafa Abdel Wahid, Hoda Abdel Moniem Labib, Hatem Zakareya, Abdel Fattah al-Gebali, Saleh al-Salhi, Mohamed al-Emary, Nadia Mabrouk, Magdi Lashin, Suzan Kalliny, and Gamal Shawki Sharobiem.

The National Press Organization will be headed by Karam Gabr and the members will include Adel Abdel Rahim, deputy president of the State Council; Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Mohamed Abdel Hadi Allam, Sharl Fou'ad, Essam Eddin Farag, Mahmoud Alam Eddin, Diaa Rashwan, Mohamed al-Hawary, Abdallah Hassan Abdel Fattah, Magdi Mostafa Hassan, Alaa Thabet, and Abdel Qader Shohaib, who apologized and turned down the post for personal reasons.

Shohaib told Al-Masry Al-Youm, hours after the decree was announced, that the time is not right to disclose his reasons for not taking the post but he would reveal his reasoning in the future.

The National Media Organization will be headed by Hussain Zain and its members will include Khaled Mahmoud Hasanien, deputy president of the State Council; Fatma Ibrahim Badr, a representative for the Finance Ministry; al-Sayed Azoz, Ismail al-Sheshtawy, Reham Mostafa Kamel, Abdel Rahman Rashad, Heba Shahin, Hamdi al-Konaisi, Gamal al-Shaer, Dalal Farrage, Gamal Enayet, and Shouky Abo Emaira.

Makram Mohamed Ahmed, new head of the Supreme Council for the Regulation of Media, said Tuesday that he would do his best to develop the media's performance and promised radical reforms in the short term.

Karam Gabr, new head of the National Press Organization, said his organization will implement a comprehensive reform plan for state-owned newspapers and will do its best to return the industry to its golden age.

Hussain Zain, new head of the National Media Organization, said the position of the president of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union no longer exists and that he would return Maspero to its outstanding status.
