Sisi meets chairman of Herrenknecht drilling co.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Transport Minister Hesham Arafat met Martin Herrenknecht, founder and chairman of Herrenknecht AG company, on Monday. The German company specializes in engineering large tunnel-boring machines.

Sisi praised Egypt’s fruitful cooperation with German companies, and the reputation they enjoy in the Egyptian market due to their quality, accuracy, and speed in implementation, presidency spokesman Bassam Rady reported.

The meeting involved reviewing a state plan to implement a number of mega projects, chiefly Egypt’s metro expansion project and the tunnels planned below the Suez Canal. Rady reported that Herrenknecht equipment will be used in these operations in order to drill efficiently.

Herrenknecht chairman expressed his company and country’s appreciation of their relations with Egypt, according to Rady, while Sisi expressed Egypt’s keenness to obtain the best purchase offers for modern drilling machines, while meeting the highest international standards. He also expressed enthusiasm about the exchange of drilling expertise between German and Egyptian workers and technicians.
