Sisi meets Mahmoud Abbas in Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss Palestinian reconciliation and developments

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday, during the sidelines of the first ever Arab-European summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady said that the meeting dealt with the latest developments in Palestine, especially regarding the issue of Palestinian national reconciliation.

Sisi stressed Egypt’s continuous effort for aiding the Palestinian cause in close cooperation with Palestinian officials, in order to develop a strategic vision conductive to stabilizing the situation, mainly by achieving national reconciliation between the Palestinian factions which will help to meet challenges and achieve lasting peace.

Sisi also expressed the steadfastness of Egypt’s position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which is involves championing the two-state solution and establishing of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Abbas stated his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts toward the Palestinian cause, praising Egypt’s historic role in this regard.

Rady added that the two leaders agreed during the meeting to continue intense consultations regarding various topics of mutual interest.
