State news agency: Top riot police officer injured in the eye

Central Security Forces' General Ahmed Mokhtar was injured in the eye during the clashes between police and protesters in the vicinity of the Interior Ministry on Friday evening, according to MENA.

The state news agency said Mokhtar is now in critical condition at the Police Hospital.

MENA did not give further information about the cause of injury.

On Friday, images posted on the Interior Ministry's Facebook page showed soldiers injured by shotgun pellets in the neck and legs. The page said that the pellets were shot by protesters on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Ayman Ahmed, a volunteer doctor at a field hospital at Dobara Palace Evangelical Church near Tahrir Square, said four people had eye injuries after having being hit by live ammunition in the early hours of Friday morning, and that one was a child no more than 12 years old.

In November police were accused of intentionally targeting protesters' eyes with sniper rifles during clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud Street, also near the Interior Ministry.
