Stock exchange not to take part in strike, says director

The stock market will be not be participating in a general strike or any form of civil disobedience, Egypt's stock exchange director Mohamed Omran said Saturday in a statement to government-run MENA.

The exchange will open Sunday normally and trading will follow its normal schedule, he said. A coalition of political and labor forces have called for a nationwide general strike and actions of civil disobedience beginning Saturday in protest of military rule.

The exchange’s employees are aware of the major role the stock market plays in supporting the national economy, as one of the key institutions in the country, Omran also said in the statement.
