Suzanne Mubarak heart surgery postponed

Heart surgery scheduled for former Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak on Sunday has been postponed due to health problems.

Marine Okasha, a cardiologist at Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, where Mubarak is spending her first days of detention, failed to carry out the planned catheterization because of the patient's unstable condition.

Mubarak suffered a sudden increase in blood pressure and a nervous disorder, which made it dangerous to conduct the surgery.

Okasha decided to postpone the operation until Mubarak's condition improves, advising that she be examined by a psychiatrist.

She suffered angina on Friday after the decision was made to detain her for 15 days, pending investigations by the Illicit Gains Authority over financial corruption.

Former President Hosni Mubarak has been hospitalized in Sharm el-Sheikh since April after he suffered a heart attack during the first round of investigations over financial corruption, abuse of power and the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution.
