Unemployment rate fall to 11.9% in 2017: Planning Minister

Egypt’s unemployment rate was reduced to 11.9 percent between January and March 2017, compared to 12.6 percent in the same period last year, the lowest rate since 2009, Minister of Planning, Monitoring, and Administrative Reformation, Hala al-Saed, said in a statement.

Saed, said that the government plans to further reduce unemployment through the provision of more job opportunities as well as increasing economic growth rates.

Unemployment rates among females declined to 24.4 percent between January and March, compared to 25.9 percent within the same period in 2016, while the rates among males declined to 8.2 percent, compared to 8.5 percent last year.
The government will further focus on increasing technological exports and reducing imports to raise economic growth rates in 2018, Saed added.
