Wahat clashes end, militant death toll rises to 13

The armed clashes between the security forces and militants at kilo 175 on al-Wahat al-Kharga-Assiut highway have ended, according to security sources.

The sources described the operation as successful due to the killing of 13 high-risk militants and the seizure of weapons and ammunition.

The bodies of the militants were transferred to the Assiut University Hospital to be taken over later by the concerned investigation authorities, according to the sources.

The National Security Sector received information on the presence of a number of militants on a mountainous road adjacent to kilo 175, after which forces from the National Security Sector, CSF, Public Security Sector forces, and Special Forces were dispatched to capture them, the sources added.

On the arrival of security forces in the area, the militants opened fire towards them, forcing the forces to exchange fire, the sources said.

The clashes resulted in the killing of 13 militants and the seizure of a large quantity of firearms and ammunition, according to the sources.
