Workers charged with holding boss hostage released on bail

The Alexandria Criminal Court upheld the release of 18 temporary workers on bail of LE1,000 each. The workers were charged with detaining the chairman of the Alexandria Portland Cement Company and 12 heads of departments, demanding that the heads hire them on a permanent basis.

The workers were also charged with resisting authorities, preventing policemen from doing their work and preventing the implementation of a judicial order issued by the public prosecution.

The company executives were detained for four days before Alexandria security authorities secured their released. Eighteen of the protesting workers were arrested at that time.

According to investigations, 150 temporary workers were involved in the incident.
