The World Bank agreed to loan Egypt US$250 million to be allocated to improving public transportation and traffic in Cairo by setting up public garages, improving intersections and improving the services of the traffic administration, said Transportation Minister Galal al-Saeed.
The loan will allow Egypt to buy quality eco-friendly buses to join the arsenal of the Cairo Transportation Authority.
In a meeting with a World Bank delegation chaired Olivier Lober, chairman of the transportation sector, to study the mechanisms for improving Cairo's traffic, the minister showcased procedures for establishing an apparatus to control Cairo traffic and its duties including conducting studies, setting rules, implementing specifications and standards for quality, safety and security of transport, and setting fees for passengers.
